Big Brown Bat
The length from head to end of its tail 3.4-5.4 “, from wing tip to wing tip is 13-16” Weight is .4 to .8 oz. This is a medium to large bat that varies in color from light to dark brown. The wings, tail, ears and nose lack fur and are dark brown to black. This bat can live at lease 20 years. This is the most common bat found in Minnesota’s winter months hibernating in buildings. The breeding takes place in the fall. The female will store the sperm and eggs until spring. The gestation is 60 day. The female can have twins. The pups are weaned and able to fly in 3-4 weeks.
